Cultural Enrichment - Walnut Creek CampusComing Soon: World Cup Champion Skier Tamara McKinney visits Dorris-Eaton Walnut Creek campus on November 12th. Past Events: DEPA is proud to present "Flames, Flares and Explosions: The Science of Fire" as the first Cultural Enrichment assembly for the 2009-2010 school year. This K-8 assembly will be presented by UC Berkeley's Lawrence Hall of Science on Friday October 23rd. This experiment-based program will set our students' scientific curiosity ablaze, while strongly emphasizing fire safety and prevention. Students will learn how fire is made, what fuel is, and how it burns. Early fire-making tools and the three basic elements needed for fire will be covered. Students will see how various fuels ignite and behave; and find out if different gases, such as hydrogen, oxygen, and helium, will combust. The content of this assembly will reinforce fire safety discussions taking place in our classrooms as part of Fire Prevention week in early October.
